The Faith of a Two-Year-Old

Everyday after work, Cory comes home and gets dressed to go running. Well the other day, the girls decided that they wanted to go too, so we got them all ready and drove to the trail that Cory runs on. The trail takes you into the forest off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. So Cory starts running, and the girls and I start walking down the trail behind him. Well eventually the girls lost sight of their daddy, and Katelund started to panic. She was so afraid that he was going to get lost. I reassured her over and over again that he would be just fine, but it was to no avail. After I began to realize that her worry was not easing up at all, I stopped the girls, got down on my knees and told them that when we are afraid or nervous that we need to say a prayer. So Katelund said a prayer that her Daddy would not get lost. Then as we continued our walk, she was still feeling anxious so I talked to her about what faith was and how after we say a prayer we have to have faith that it will be answered. Then we started singing all of the primary songs that we could think of that taught us about faith. Well, after some time had passed, she relaxed and was okay. Eventually Cory caught back up with us, we thanked Heavenly Father for his help, and we went home to have our Family Home Evening (about faith of course).
Yesterday, Cory came home and began his routine of getting ready to go running. He was putting his shoes on and Cloey walked up to him and said,..."Daddy, if you say a prayer and sing songs then you won't get lost on the trail, okay?" It was SO ADORABLE! The funny thing is that I thought that whole experience was for Katelund, who'd have thought that it was also for my sweet little two-year-old. The faith of a child never ceases to amaze me!!

Sigh of relief...

Wow. This last week was so crazy. I had to create cards for an Enrichment activity, plan for and be in charge of a primary teacher development meeting on Saturday, have a primary meeting, plan for the Personal Progress activity this month, take care of sick kids, pretend that I am not sick (even though I feel pretty bad), support a friend in need, and go to a birthday party. I am just so glad that I had general conference the prior weekend to boost me up.

I loved Conference so much!! It is amazing how every talk seemed to be just what I needed to hear. I have been carrying around my conference journal all week so that in any spare moment I have, I go back to my notes and re-read what I wrote. Sister Beck's talk and President Eyring's talk were my very favorites. I have so many areas in which I want to do better, and I know that with the Lord by my side, I can and will be better than I ever could on my own. I feel such an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the gospel in my life and I feel so incredibly blessed to have been raised in a home where I was taught who I am and what the purpose of this life is. Really, it all comes down to the fact that I had (and still have) a mother who knew...and that has made all the difference.

Card Class

They asked me to do a card-making class for Enrichment in November. I had to come up with some samples this week to pass around on Sunday. Here is what I came up with. I am a little worried that they are not traditional enough, but I only had a couple of days, and there wasn't very good paper at Michaels (there are no scrapbook stores in Asheville, whats up with that?). Do you think I've made enough excuses? Let's face it, I just need my sisters to help me be creative!!!

Play Dough Fun

I have been working on letters with Katelund for a little bit each day. Well yesterday, I told Katelund to make letters with the play dough. She told me to leave the room because she wanted to surprise me. I came back in to find her "name" written out, only the letters were completely out of order. She was so excited to show me so I just got all excited with her and then had to take a picture of course. :)

Just call me..."Martha Stewart"...

I finally fulfilled Katelund's wish...I made curtains for her room. It was so much fun. It was really only my second time to sew curtains. The first set I made was for the Primary room, but they were very easy to make. These ones were a little more difficult (well at least for me). I cannot believe how much I love to sew, especially after I finish a project. I really am not very good at it, but I want to be. I guess I should learn how to read patterns instead of trying to figure everything out myself.

After I hung the curtains up, Katelund said to me, "Mommy I love my new curtains. You are the best mommy ever." How sweet is that! I know I'm not the best mom ever, but at least in my daughter's eyes I am...and that is all that matters to me.

Boys will be boys...

This is how Cory spent the first couple hours of his birthday....playing X-box with some of his friends from about 11pm to 2:00am (what a way to welcome in your 29th year) :) I just don't get it. Luckily, playing X-box is is only something he does every couple of months, but I still just don't get what is so fun about staring at a TV while pushing buttons like crazy so that you can "kill" your friends.
We spent the rest of his birthday hanging out as a family, watching college football, . having a fun picnic at the park with some friends, throwing a football around, and then me going to the Relief Society Broadcast (so wonderful!!!). It was a great day. Happy Birthday Cory!!
